Environmental Management Spanning the Mining Life-cycle

CH2M HILL can manage all aspects of site, ecological, and natural resource stewardship, including planning, assessment and investigation, cleanup, monitoring, operations and maintenance, and total utility management. We craft strategies for you that integrate regulatory, technical, financial, project delivery, and risk management solutions.

By integrating the complex multitude of activities needed to decommission and close mining operations, we help our clients reduce liabilities through eliminating hazardous contaminants and planning for the redevelopment of the site.

CH2M HILL develops and implements integrated water management systems for mining and other industrial clients, providing the full spectrum of planning, design, construction, and contract operations and maintenance of these systems. Our systematic approach to integrated water management focuses on creating the most effective and efficient water systems that will enhance production, improve safety, increase compliance, and reduce life-cycle costs. This includes production-based water minimization and pollution prevention, appropriate source water type and treatment selection, water recycling and reuse, and wastewater treatment and discharge.

Exploration and Permitting

Assisting our clients during the pre-development phases of exploration and permitting often takes us to remote corners of the world. Managing the local infrastructure and resources in these areas is a challenge we have met time and again. Working with governmental entities and local communities, we help our clients develop the plans for permitting projects and operations, handling emissions and wastes, and reusing consumables (such as water) to meet the engineering and procurement challenges, while still promoting environmental stewardship in these difficult locations. Modifications/Upgrades/Sustaining Services

CH2M HILL provides engineering solutions for plant modifications/ upgrades/sustaining services including Owner's Engineer, small capital engineering work, studies, estimates, and loaned servant work. In addition, our construction services include maintenance work at operating facilities and small cap projects. We have the skills and expertise to support you on projects of any size or scope.

Air Quality

Air permitting is often the critical path item for new process plants, as well as for upgrades to existing facilities. CH2M HILL provides timely new source permitting and cost-effective compliance with existing permit requirements, minimizing corporate liability. We have developed an in-depth understanding of the regulatory requirements, modeling approaches, and control technology to effectively obtain the necessary air quality permits and approvals.

CH2M HILL is currently developing proprietary mercury control technologies through our Amended Silicates joint venture, providing a cost-effective, advanced sorbent method to control mercury air emissions from mining operations and other industrial facilities.
